Following breakfast on Friday morning, Peggy Rosenfeld (Dr. Peggy to some) noted some reunion participants had shown an interest in a murder dinner theater--a who done it with a meal and audience participation. Peggy immediately seized my cell phone, took the point, and in less than an hour had almost all reunion participants signed up. A Marine recruiter in dress blues offering radio school and a chance to go to Hawaii couldn’t have done better.  We should have known something was not adding up when we noted 1st Radio held most (2/3s) of the seats and they required a particularly willing member of our group to fill in for a missing dancer. The understudy was none other than our own Jack Williams. Although this writer wondered how Jack would handle his newly assigned MOS (2500 TTT); that would be Radio Operator Turned Twinkle Toes, and with all things considered, Jack saved the show. The story, the “professional” acting and the plot was lacking--a lot. Jack, however, proved that only Marines, as Marines often prove, can improvise, adapt, and overcome to handle all circumstances. Jack was the man of the hour, the evening, a shining light among Roger Dangerfield and Frank Sinatra wanabees.

Always the highlight of the last evening is the reunion dinner. Again, Ooo Rah Tom and Brenda. They chose a seafood restaurant along an inlet and boat yard that was easy to get to, popular among locals and visitors alike, and met our expectation hands down. Rudee’s Restaurant, with limited seating yet a rather large and diverse seafood selection would stand up to many of the better (same class) restaurants this writer has visited and worked. Our hosts seated us on a rather cozy sun deck overlooking the water. They provided us with two excellent servers who knew the menu and could answer questions about food preparation. Orders were taken and food was served with no complaints heard from this posit and everyone seemed pleased with their meal. Again, Tom and Brenda you done well!

Following dinner, everyone returned to the Sand Castle for muster in the hospitality suit for the cake cutting ceremony. Doing the honors was the oldest 1st Radio Representative Lloyd Bean and the youngest 1st Radio representative Jack (TTT) Williams.

Lt. Brewington called the room to order and with saber in hand cut and served the first piece of cake and, in honoring Cpl Fouts, served the first piece of cake to Nickie Campbell.  Standing with a raised drink in hand, all those present stood and toasted Cpl Fouts for the final salute.

Lt. Brewington again called the group to order and began the more arguable task of nominating the next location where First Composite Radio Co. will meet to celebrate the 8th renewal of the gathering of our brothers their wives, families and friends to celebrate our unit's 50th anniversary of First Radio’s deployment to Pleiku, Republic of Vietnam. Most appropriately, Pensacola was chosen to be that site.  Cpl Hagan and Anita have the honor of hosting our 2012 reunion.

God bless the United States and God Bless the United States Marine Corps.

 Harvey Rosenfeld
