I
n Karen’s words: “Not a day goes by that my Dad is not in my thoughts. I am so lucky to have been the daughter of a man who never faltered in his love for God, Country and Corps. My Dad instilled standards in me that have guided me through every aspect of my life. If I faltered he was always there to pick me up and guide me back in the right direction without criticism, but with the silent reserve that seemed to glow around him like a bright light. I was fortunate enough to have married John, a man that my Dad loved and respected. When he was in the hospital he told a Priest one day that he thought of him as a son. I once told my Dad when he voiced regret about the moving around he put us kids through, that I had the best childhood, growing up in places that most people only dream of going to and I would not have changed it for anything in the world. How fortunate I am to have had the best Dad in the world.”
